Woohoo!

Just in case you haven’t noticed, there is a patch available over at the main Font Runner site for the insidious start-up freeze problem.

It is very hard to debug a problem that you cannot see. Font Runner had never locked-up in front of me – until the other night.

I had spent a great deal of time going over everything that happens at startup and looking for problems. I closed a few potential holes, but nothing really significant. I was just shooting in the dark and I certainly couldn’t release a patch with a few insignificant changes and claim the lock-up was fixed. I forged on with Font Runner 3.0 work hoping I would eventually stumble onto something.

Finally, the problem occurred on my computer and, almost unbelievably, took only a few minutes to fix.

A classic story, I suppose, and I know this sort of thing happens in software development every day. No matter what project I’m working on, when I get a bug report, I’m happy when I can reproduce the problem.

That’s enough about this awful problem. Go get the patch and get back to using Font Runner…

Welcome to the Font Runner Blog!

First, I want to thank everyone that has taken the time to contact me to provide feedback and report bugs. You all are the reason Font Runner is alive!

I've gotten many kind e-mails from appreciative users that have really benefitted from the software. Some of you however, have run into some problems that I really haven't had time to address -- until now.

There are two problems that have been reported more than once. Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce either of them.

Viewing a folder containing more than 2,000 fonts - There have been problems reported with this, yet, as I mentioned, I ahve been unable to observe it. Fortunately, there is an easy workaround. If you have this problem, you can divide these fonts into multiple folders.
Problems at startup including crashes and freezes - Obviously, this is a more serious problem as it prevents people from using Font Runner. Even when testing Font Runner on a variety of machines, I haven't been able to reproduce this problem.

For a software developer, being able to reproduce a problem is a huge part of being able to fix it. If anyone is experiencing either of these issues and wants to help get the fixed, all you have to do is fill out my new bug report form or feel free to leave me a comment using the below link.
